Four Moran faculty members took part this week in a workshop on self care for educators.

Moran teachers Gay Williams, Carly Henson, Betty Galvan, and Anita Wheat attended the program presented by the Region 14 Education Service Center on Monday, July 25 at Southern Hills Church in Abilene. Dr. Tina H. Boogren of Denver instructed educators from several school districts on how to better take care of themselves.

“One of the things she talked about was teachers who are stressed out have more behavioral issues in their classes, and their students have lower overall achievement,” Wheat said. "It stressed the overall importance of teachers taking better care of themselves so they can better educate the children.”

Boogren advocates for educators, particularly for their well-being. She is the author of numerous books centered around quality instruction, coaching, mentoring, and wellness and is co-director of Solution Tree’s Wellness Solutions for Educators with Dr. Timothy D. Kanold.

“It was a really good class,” Wheat said, “a very refreshing workshop.”

Getting Started

Moran will hold five days of teacher inservice next week, starting Monday, Aug. 1.

“We’ll begin at 9:00 a.m. with breakfast being served in the cafeteria,” principal Jo Hise said.   “Teachers and staff will meet all week going over required trainings, school safety, and the calendar for the upcoming year.”

Among the organizations providing breakfast during the week are First Baptist Church of Moran and First Financial Bank.

Meet The Teacher

On Thursday, Aug. 4, Moran will hold “Meet the Bulldogs” and “Meet the Teacher” activities. Starting at 5:00 p.m., the PTO will serve hamburgers at the football field concession stand. “Meet the Bulldogs” will start at 5:30 p.m. on the football field with “Meet the Teacher” starting at 6:00 p.m.

Athletic Practices

Preseason practices for fall sports will begin Monday, Aug. 1.

Cross country practice will begin at 7:00 a.m. with athletes meeting at the Moran gym.

Football practice will start at 3:00 p.m. at Bulldog Field.

“I’m looking forward to the start of the season,” football coach John Hughes said. “We still will have a young team, but they are ready to step up and face the challenge in front of them.”

The first volleyball practice will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the gym.

Any new students must have physicals before participating in practices.
