MISD students, staff plan Christmas activities, PTO meal

Several activities are crowded into the final two weeks of the fall semester at Moran including, of course, exams, but also classroom Christmas parties, a visit from Santa Claus, UIL contests, basketball games, the annual PTO holiday meal, and gathering presents for the Angel Tree.

Parties

A group of students attended one of the puppet shows at the Old Jail Art Center in Albany on Wednesday, Dec. 5.

Master puppeteers Charlie Rose and Dan Peeler presented the marionette performances to Christmas classics.

Several classes, including Spanish I and II, are expected to enjoy Christmas parties.

Many MISD students and staff are expected to  be at the 6:00 p.m. Moran Tree Lighting and Caroling on Sunday, Dec. 9.

UIL Contestants

Several Moran third, fourth, and fifth grade students are competing at the district University Interscholastic League competition in Strawn this Thursday, Dec. 6, and sixth, seventh, and eighth graders will head to Gordon on Thursday, Dec. 13 for their meet.

Representing MISD at the UIL meet in Strawn are third graders Ezekiel Henson, Miguel Rodriguez, and Gavin Medina, and fourth graders Cohen Ethridge, Landon Moreno, and Cutter Campbell.

Also competing for Moran at Strawn are fifth grade students Jayla Bussell, Chase Murk, Cassandra Mendez, LeAnna Sikes, Charity Boyd, Kacenda Thompkins, and Dustin Sanders.

PTO Holiday Meal

This Saturday, Dec. 8, the Moran Parent Teacher Organization will serve a free holiday meal in the MISD cafeteria.

“We are serving turkey, ham, dressing, gravy, and cranberry sauce,” said PTO president Jo Hise. “We ask that those attending bring a side dish and/or a dessert. The meal will be served in the school cafeteria beginning at 5:00 p.m. and it is free.”

Hise asked those who plan to attend to please call the school and let them know they are coming, so that they have an accurate head count.

The PTO holiday meal is open to the community, added administrative assistant Jeannie TenCate.

Breakfast With Santa

Santa Claus is expected to eat breakfast with students and teachers at Moran on Friday, Dec. 14.

Present for MISD

The Moran schools received a present from the Comanche Electric Cooperative Association in the form of a $1,000 educational grant.

“The funds will be used for purchasing materials for the school’s dyslexic program,” said TenCate.

Angel Tree

An Angel Tree has been set up at the school again this year, to allow prospective donors a chance to shop for specific items for a child to brighten his or her Christmas.

“Come by and see me in the school office if you are interested (in adopting one of the Angels),” said TenCate. “The Angel tree gifts need to be brought back to the school on or before Monday, Dec. 17. We plan to deliver them on Tuesday, Dec. 18.”

Basketball

All four Moran basketball teams have games scheduled before the Christmas break. For more information on locations and times, see the related article in this week’s edition of the News.

Christmas Break

The next scheduled break at MISD will be for the Christmas holidays.

Two early release days on Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 19 and Dec. 20, will be followed by a staff comp day/student holiday on Friday, Dec. 21.

Christmas break starts on Monday, Dec. 24 and continues through Friday, Jan. 4, with classes resuming at the usual times on Monday, Jan. 7, for the spring semester.
