Moran ISD faculty and staff met earlier this month with Joni West of the East End Co-Op to discuss how to better meet students’ needs.

Moran superintendent Dr. John Denson said the meeting on Tuesday, June 14 was intended to help the district to provide resources for students.

“This meeting was to make sure our students who are behind can catch up,” Denson said. “We’re planning for next year and making sure everything’s in place.”

Denson said Moran staff members and students are participating in several programs over the summer to prepare for the new school year.

Drama teacher Bryce Hughes is attending a theater/one-act play camp at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Students Cotten Campbell, Allen Hebel, and Ellis Hise will attend a meat judging camp next week at Texas Tech.

“Nobody really realizes how much work there is to do during the summer months,” Denson said.

Among other summer business was taking delivery for a salad bar for the cafeteria.

Another summer project is adding air conditioning to the football concession stand.

Summer School

Moran is more than halfway through summer school with about 17 students attending summer classes.

Classes for students in kindergarten through sixth grade will continue from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday through June 30.

“The students will have an opportunity to take their EOC tests the last two weeks,” principal Jo Hise said. “We did have some needing to make up attendance to get into compliance. They come and go as they get their days done.”
