Moran ISD held a ribbon cutting Tuesday, Sept. 19 for the new floor in its gym.

The work was conducted by Jelco of Austin as a cost of $79,978, superintendent Dr. John Denson said.

The project took six weeks from the start of work on Aug. 7 until the floor was ready for use last week. The school wasted little time putting the new floor to work as junior high and high school volleyball teams played their first home matches of the season just hours after the ribbon cutting.

Moran principal and volleyball coach Jo Hise said the floor’s paint job is eye-catching.

“We have the logo with the Bulldog head inside the outline of the state of Texas in the center circle,” she said. “They stained the 3-point circle a darker color than the lane and the rest of the floor. You can see the 3-point circle a whole lot better.”

And work isn’t done yet.

Denson said the MISD board approved installation of new LED lights at its meeting Monday, Sept. 25. That project is expected to start Thursday, Sept. 28 (today) and be finished in two days.

“It’s one of those things where once you replace the floor, now we’ve got to paint the bleachers,” Denson said. “We got the bleachers painted. Now we’re going to replace those old lights that are all dented from balls hitting them.”
