Red Ribbon Week is underway at the Moran Independent School District, and students have been encouraged to dress up for the special theme days this week.

On Monday, the theme “I won’t get mixed up with drugs” was reinforced by “mixed-matched” clothes.

Camo attire on Tuesday encouraged students to “Join in the fight against drugs.”

“Give drugs the boot” was the dress-up theme for Wednesday, and everyone was urged to wear boots.

Students could dress as their favorite character on Thursday for “My character is too great for drugs.”

On Friday, the halls should be filled with children dressed in neon for “I glow without drugs.”

The national “Red Ribbon Campaign” is designed to draw as much attention as possible to the problems of drug and alcohol abuse and its prevention. The theme for 2019 is “Send a message. Stay Drug Free.”

FAFSA Night

Cisco College representatives were on hand at MISD on Wednesday to help junior and senior students and their parents complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and to offer Dual Credit planning to all high school students interested in the opportunity.

Halloween

Students at Moran had a chance to wear their Halloween costumes early for a “Spook the Yellow Jackets” pep rally on Oct. 25.

The Moran PTO sponsored annual Trunk or Treat will take place on Thursday, Oct. 31, at the school.

“In case of bad weather, we will move to the Moran Event Center, just down from the school,” said Moran Independent School District administrative assistant Jeannie TenCate.

She added that any change in location for Trunk or Treat will be posted on the MISD Facebook page.

Members of the Moran Volunteer Fire Department will offer a free hay ride on Halloween, Oct. 31, beginning at 8:00 p.m. in the school parking lot.

November Activities

Moran ISD plans to host its annual Veterans Day Hamburger Luncheon at the Moran ISD Event Center at 12:00 noon on Monday, Nov. 11, according to superintendent Danny Freeman.

Friday, Nov. 15 is the next optional/required fifth day at Moran.

The annual MISD Thanksgiving dinner will take place in the school cafeteria from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22, the final class day before Moran breaks for the Thanksgiving holidays.

Students will be off Nov. 25 through Nov. 29 for Thanksgiving. Staff members are scheduled for a comp day on Monday, Nov. 25. The school will be closed Nov. 26-29.
