The Moran Independent School District will go to a four-day school week for the 2022-23 school year, superintendent Dr. John Denson announced.

Denson said the MISD school board formally adopted the calendar for the next school year at its meeting Friday, March 25.

Denson said the only Friday class days will be the week of Labor Day in September and the first week of the spring semester in January.

“That way, those are still four-day weeks for the students even with the holidays,” Denson said.

Denson said the first Friday of each month will serve as staff development days.

“We’ll be able to call parents and have staff meetings,” he said. “It’s hard to schedule those staff meetings when we have teachers coaching, driving buses, and having to be different places. The first Friday will give us a chance to meet and do some planning.”

Denson said the school day will run slightly longer, from 7:50 a.m. to 4:17 p.m. Buses will run about 10 minutes earlier in the morning to accommodate the schedule.

“Having a block schedule this year kind of prepared us for this,” he said. “We’ll be able to keep basically the same schedule we have now, but with nine periods.”
