MISD events include UIL, holiday meal, Santa
By Kathy Thomson
Several activities are crowded into the few remaining weeks of the fall semester at Moran including, of course, exams, but also Christmas activities, a visit from Santa Claus, UIL contests, basketball games, the annual PTO holiday meal, and gathering presents for the Angel Tree.
UIL Contestants
Junior high students remained in Moran for the University Interscholastic League ready writing competition on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
Several Moran third, fourth, and fifth grade students are competing at the UIL academic district competition in Strawn on Thursday, Dec. 5, and sixth, seventh, and eighth graders will head to Ranger on Thursday, Dec. 12 for their meet.
Moran competes in District 20-A along with Baird, Eula, Gordon, Ranger, and Strawn.
PTO Holiday Meal
On Saturday, Dec. 14, the Moran Parent Teacher Organization will serve a free holiday meal in the MISD cafeteria starting at 6:00 p.m.
The community is welcome to come to the free holiday meal, according to MISD administrative assistant Jeannie TenCate.
Those who plan to attend are asked to please call the school and let them know they are coming, so that they have an accurate head count.
Basketball
All four Moran basketball teams have games scheduled before the Christmas break. For more information on locations and times, see the related article in this week’s edition of the News.
Breakfast With Santa
Santa Claus is expected to eat breakfast with students and teachers at Moran on Friday, Dec. 20.
Angel Tree
An Angel Tree has been set up at the school again this year to allow prospective donors a chance to shop for specific items for a child to brighten his or her Christmas.
“Come by and see me in the school office if you are interested (in adopting one of the Angels),” said TenCate. “Some of them are still available.”
Christmas Break
The next scheduled break at MISD will be an optional/required fifth day on Friday, Dec. 13.
All MISD students will be out for the Christmas holidays from Monday, Dec. 23 through Friday, Jan. 3.
There is a staff comp day scheduled for Friday, Jan. 3.
Classes resume at the usual times on Monday, Jan. 6, for the spring semester.
