By Kathy Thomson

School schedules typically get crowded once the weather warms up, with spring sports, spring break, exams, UIL meets, and other activities filling the calendar, and that seems to be the case in Moran.

Spring Break

MISD will release at the normal time on Friday, March 6 for spring break.

The campus will be closed during the week of March 9-13, with classes resuming at the usual time on Monday, March 16.

Cheer Tryouts

Cheer and mascot tryouts, on the calendar for Friday, March 20, may need to be rescheduled.

“According to coach Hise, the tennis team has a meet on that same day,” said Moran administrative assistant Jeannie Ten Cate. “We may need to move the cheer tryouts to another day.”

FFA Luncheon

The Moran FFA chapter hosted area farmers and ranchers for a hamburger luncheon last week, as they do every year during National FFA Week.

Read Across America

Elementary students at the Moran Independent School District were encouraged to wear hats to school on Monday, March 2, as part of “Read Across America” week.

American children’s author Theodor Seuss Geisel was born on March 2, and the National Education Association encourages everyone to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday by reading to kids.

Monday’s dress-up theme was tied to one of Dr. Seuss’s best known books, The Cat In The Hat.

Dress-up days continued with crazy socks on Tuesday for Fox In Socks, wacky outfits on Wednesday for Wacky Wednesday, green clothes on Thursday for Green Eggs and Ham, and concluding with “dress as your favorite zoo animal” on Friday for If I Ran The Zoo.

Elementary Track

First through sixth graders who have turned in a parent release slip will go to an elementary track meet in Bryson on Thursday, March 5.

UIL Meet

The District 20-A academic meet will be held in Eula Thursday, March 26.

Other schools in the district with Moran and Eula are Baird, Gordon, Ranger, and Strawn.

State Testing

STARR and EOC testing dates include April 7-9 and May 4-14.

Schedule

Optional/required fifth days are on the calendar for March 27, April 24, and May 1, 15, and 22.

Student holidays are set for April 10 and 13, and May 25.
