Moran High School has set graduation and Baccalaureate together for Friday, May 29 at 7:00 p.m.

Teacher and coach Matthew Hise will be the speaker.

MISD superintendent Danny Freeman said the location will be outside, south of the school gymnasium.

Moran Class of 2020 valedictorian November Meredith and salutatorian Harley Schafer will both give speeches.

Freeman said students will enter the graduation area from the main school building and will be spaced out both during the processional and while seated.

Freeman added that each student is allowed to invite eight family members. The school will set up eight pre-arranged chairs for each family group.

“If there is an overflow, those spectators will have to stand outside the school perimeter,” Freeman said.

Freeman also said staff members will conduct COVID-19 pre-screening and ask exposure questions to ensure the health and safety of all those who attend.

“To limit the number of people attending graduation, teachers are not required to be present,” Freeman said. “There will be social monitors spaced out and portable hand sanitizer available.”

The seven graduating seniors will take group photos before and after the ceremony.

Baccalaureate gifts for the seniors from the First Baptist Church in Moran will be handed out at graduation.

Moran ISD will not hold a ceremony for the eighth grade graduates or for the kindergarten class this year but still hopes to be able to take photos of each of the kindergarten graduates in cap and gown.

Awards

Moran athletes Dariann Hawley, November Meredith, and Harley Schafer have all been named to the Six-Man Academic All-State Team for basketball.
