MISD classes to start Monday

The 2020-2021 school year for Moran ISD gets underway on Monday, Aug. 24, at 8:00 a.m.
The staff has been busy preparing for students to arrive for face-to-face learning or on the computer for remote instruction.
Principal Jo Hise reported that current enrollment is 110 with a few families choosing remote learning.
According to superintendent Danny Freeman, the plan is to re-open as normal for in-person students with enhanced sanitation measures, daily health screenings, and personal protective equipment.
Freeman explained that families who haven’t enrolled need to complete registration forms and indicate a mode of instruction they choose for their child.
“If remote learning is chosen, it will be the parent’s responsibility to provide internet access, and no UIL participation will be allowed,” Freeman added.
Daily calls or e-mail will be used to monitor and support remote learners.
Attendance laws will be the same for all students, and teachers must be contacted between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. daily for students to be counted as present.
Campus visitors are restricted to the main foyer, and all scheduled visitors will be screened before entering the building.
Freeman said that no parents will be permitted on campus to eat breakfast or lunch with students but can eat outdoors within family units.
Parents are encouraged to continue to be a vital role in the education of their children and be an active participant via conference calls, e-mail, or video chat.
“MISD is committed to providing a safe and effective learning environment,” Freeman concluded.
