MISD accepts windmill tax proposal

Five trustees of the Moran Independent School District board met at called meeting in the school auditorium last Friday, April 10, to consider accepting a tax deferment proposal by a windmill company which intends to start a project south of Moran.

Part of the planned windmill farm will be in the MISD taxing district.

RWE Renewables Americas LLC claims to be one of the world’s leading renewable energy companies, with around 3,500 employees. The company has applied for a value limitation agreement on property taxes for the first few years they are up and running.

“We met with our legal council from Youngblood and Taylor, and we are sending the proposal to the Texas Comptroller’s office,” said MISD superintendent Danny Freeman. “The offer has to be authorized by the Comptroller before they can get started on the project. We are just hoping and praying that they get approved.”

A windmill project would be a big boost to the district’s financial situation, Freeman said.

School Schedule

Following Governor Greg Abbott’s executive order, MISD will remain closed and continue remote learning at least through May 4.

Freeman will deliver school packets and pick up finished work from students in Cisco, Breckenridge, and Albany on Friday, April 17.

Last week the deliveries were made a day earlier because of the Easter holiday, but they have now returned to a Friday schedule.

“We will continue to make academic materials and meals available for pick up and delivery,” Freeman told parents. “Teachers will be available daily via email and in most cases by phone.”

The MISD office is open most weekday mornings from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon, and sporadically in the afternoons. The office phone number is 325-945-3109.
