Ministry uses theft proof bins

Because of ongoing problems with pilfering of donated items, Closet Angels is now using a theft proof donation bin that is owned by Medina Children’s home.

“Unfortunately, it has been painted bright blue and has their signs painted on that read ‘Arms of Hope’,” said Closet Angels director Lori Reames. “We are not allowed to paint over this, so we want everyone to know this is where they need to deposit their donations to Closet Angels!”

Reames asked donors to first place items inside plastic trash bags before dropping them into the bins.

“The inside of the bin is rusty,” said Reames. “If items are bagged, it is much easier for the volunteers to retrieve the donations without having to bend over and pick up loose items and potentially having to wash them.”

If donors have larger items that won’t fit through the opening, they may drop them off when volunteers are working at Closet Angels on Mondays from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. or call Reames at 325-721-8620.

“We don’t want items left outside to be pilfered through,” she said.

Closet Angels is open to the public most Mondays from 12:00 noon until 6:00 p.m.; however, the clothing ministry is closed on school holidays, including next Monday, May 27 for Memorial Day.

Neighbors in Need is usually open on Mondays from 10:00 a.m. until noon, but will also be closed next Monday, May 27 for the holiday.

Reames added that both Closet Angels and NIN welcome volunteers and cash donations.

“To inquire about a need, to be placed on the waiting list, or to arrange to drop off donations, call Sam Burge at 325-762-6221, or Blanca Sanchez at 325-668-0657,” said Reames. “For help with diapers, wipes, etc., or to donate diapers and baby supplies to Chelsey’s Project, contact Blanca as well.”
