The Albany Ministerial Alliance has decided to try combining “Trunk or Treat” with the PTO Fall Fest at Nancy Smith Elementary School next month, with both events scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 27. The majority of voting members at the meeting decided to “see how it works, and adjust as needed for 2019.”

Proposed Schedule

Trunk or Treat will be set up between NSES and the bus barn, and take place from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27.

As it is scheduled now, the NSES cafeteria will begin serving at 5:00 p.m., and Fall Fest booths will open at 5:30 p.m.

Judging of costumes will take place inside the cafeteria at 7:00 p.m.

Booths will close at 8:30 p.m.

Minutes from the Sept. 4 Alliance meeting show that attendees discussed some pros and cons of the merger before the motion passed by a small margin.

Pros:

•Attendance numbers are expected to increase.

•Parents would have one less time to dress up children in costumes.

•The Ministerial Alliance could avoid the expense of providing a meal, since the Fall Fest cafeteria provides a low cost dining option.

Cons:

•Church participation at Trunk or Treat might decrease.

Additional cons were later expressed by MMPC pastor Anthony Ceder, who did not stay for all the meeting due to a scheduling conflict.

•It could be harder to find enough volunteers to work both activities on the same evening.

•Families may become tired out from Trunk or Treat and leave Fall Fest early.

•There would not be a “healthy and wholesome” activity for children on Oct. 31.

The next scheduled meeting of the Ministerial Alliance is Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 8:30 a.m. at The Feed Store.
