MHS teams get fall season underway
The Moran Lady Bulldogs took to the court in Aspermont on Tuesday, Aug. 21 at 5:00 p.m. Scores were not available at press time.
The varsity volleyball team lost a game in Vernon to Northside on Aug. 14, in three sets (10-25,19-25, 14-25).
The Lady Bulldogs were at the Gorman Spikefest Tournament on Wednesday, Aug. 16, and lost a 4:00 p.m. match to the host team in two sets (11-25, 13-25). Results from the rematch on Aug. 18 were not available at press time.
Dakota Fowler is the girls head coach.
Football
The Bulldogs travelled to Mullin on Friday, Aug. 17, and scrimmaged both Mullin and Oglesby.
The team’s first regular game of the season is scheduled to be in Benjamin on Friday, Aug. 31 starting at 7:30 p.m.
Last year the Moran varsity boys outplayed the Mustangs 60-6 during homecoming at Bulldog Stadium. However, Moran will field a very different team this year, because six players from the 2017 team that made it two games deep into the playoffs graduated in May and Moran also has a new athletic director/boys head coach, Harley Ethridge.
Assistant coach Matthew Hise has been with the team for several years, and seniors Curry Pendleton and Jesse Hawley have experience in post season play their sophomore and junior years.
Sixmanfootball.com picked Moran as a 45 point favorite in the season opener.
The Bulldogs will travel to Rising Star for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff against the Wildcats on Friday, Sept. 7.
Moran and Rising Star faced each other in District 11-A competition last fall, and the Bulldogs chased the “cats” up and down Wildcat Stadium, handing them a 78-32 loss.
Both teams have relocated to different districts. Rising Star moved to District 15-A, and Moran headed west to District 6-A.
Moran’s first home game will be on Friday, Sept. 14 when they host Sidney, another team that they were able to defeat in 2017.
The Bulldogs have byes for weeks four and five, and then hit the road for three non-district games at Chillicothe on Oct. 5, Three Way on Oct. 12, and Gustine for the Braves’ homecoming on Oct. 12.
Moran will host the Blackwell Hornets in the two teams’ first-ever meeting as District 6-A opponents on Friday, Oct 26 at 7:30 p.m. Blackwell defeated Moran 40-21 last season in a non-district match-up.
District play will continue the following Friday, Nov. 2 in Loraine, and back home the following week to end the regular season against the Trent Gorillas.
