FFA News

Moran FFA students took part in district and area contests last week with the meat judging team just missing a state berth.

“We ended up one hole away from making it to state,” Moran superintendent Dr. John Denson said. “Jacksboro beat us by about 60 points. We were first in district and seventh in area.”

Team members are Ellis Hise, Cotten Campbell, Caleb York and Allen Hebel.

Moran’s team of Kacenda Thompkins, Jayla Bussell, Sarah Mendoza, and MaeKayla Kersey finished 24th in Vet Tech, while Alyssa Allred, Zech Henderson, LeAnna Sikes, and Max Oliver finished 51st in horse judging.

Today, Campbell, Hebel, Hise, and Tyler Hale were in Wichita Falls for a welding competition with a chance to become certified.

“They will have to stick and MIG weld for the judges,” FFA advisor Minnie Denson said. “If they pass, they will be named certified welders. This will also benefit the school rating since this certification is on the IBC list.”

Test Time

Moran begins STAARS testing Monday, April 24, with Tests in English I and History. The test for English II will be taken Thursday, April 27.

Third through eighth grade reading STAARS test will also be taken next week.

The school district will conduct testing through Wednesday, May 10.
