By Lynsi Musselman

Moran Independent School District superintendent Danny Freeman and school board member Sug Roller presented diplomas to seven seniors at Friday evening’s commencement exercises.

Graduates and eight family members per student were in attendance at the ceremony.

“We made every effort to practice safe social distancing and make all attendees comfortable,” Freeman said. “Additonal spectators drove up or stood outside the rock wall of the school to watch the seniors.”

Graduates include valedictorian November Mere-dith, salutatorian Harley Schafer, Charles Andrew Farner, Jim Tom Holland, Raygan Mendez, Cody Rucker, and Jonas Sotelo.

DA’s in Moran hosted a dinner before graduation and gifted each senior with $40 cash.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there was no Project Graduation for the Class of 2020.

Future Plans

The 2020 graduates will soon go in different directions. Some are college bound to Texas Tech University and Hardin-Simmons University, while others got a head start entering the work force in March.

Freeman said once classroom instruction was cancelled for the year, most seniors went into the work force immediately.

Summer School and

Fall Registration

Freeman said there will be no summer school for Moran ISD this year.

“Some students might return to school earlier in the fall to make up credits, but nothing has been decided,” Freeman said.

Fall 2020-2021 school registration can be completed this summer during school office hours.

Forms are available at the Moran ISD office at 900 Main Ave., Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
