Four Moran students earned individual honors Monday, Feb. 28, at the District 13-1A One-Act Play contest at Eula.

Hannah Rogers earned a spot on the All-Star Cast, while Harmony Slaughter was named Outstanding Crew. Alli Scott and Emily Murk received honorable mention on the All-Star Cast.

Moran performed “The Girl in the Mirror” by Bruce Jacoby under the direction of teacher Bryce Hughes. Moran was not among the three schools to advance.

“This is the first time Moran has competed in One-Act in I don’t know how long,” Hughes said. “The fact that three of our kids got acting awards is absolutely incredible.”

The cast and crew was critiqued during a practice performance Friday, Feb. 25, at Stephenville, which Hughes said was a tremendous help.

“It gave us a lot more insight into things we hadn’t thought about,” he said. “Our original staging was very awkward, and the guy doing the critique gave us a whole new set, which helped us timing-wise and helped people get set better. He was really helpful in finding what the actors’ characters should be and what their motivation should be.”

Moran competed with a cast of nine and three crew members. Other cast members were Ellis Hise, Aydan Moreno, Chase Murk, Samantha Hinkle, Vivi Green, and Bailey Schafer.

Alyssa Allred and Daphani Crews joined Slaughter on the crew.

Hughes said Moran was forced to change plays after one of its original cast members moved away last fall.

“We already have very limited numbers,” he said. “Over Thanksgiving, I looked at scripts and we ended up picking a whole new play.”

Spring Fling

Moran ISD will hold its Spring Fling event Friday, March 11, at the Moran football field.

Moran principal Jo Hise said the event serves as a fundraiser for various class projects.

Activities will start at 5:30 p.m.

“Each class will operate a booth with carnival-type games,” Hise said. “The seniors will have a concession stand, I believe with hamburger meal deals.”

Activities will include a silent auction and a cake walk, Hise said.

Contestants must purchase tickets at the PTO Booster Barn which will then be used to play various games.

“Each booth will set how many tickets it takes to play the games,” Hise said.
