Moran FFA students began participating in the SanAngeloLivestockShow this week with the ag mechanics contest.

Caleb York placed fifth in his class with an entry gate.

The contest drew 783 projects with more than 1,500 students from 233 FFA chapters from across Texas.

Among the events was the Fastest Torch in the West, in which competitors use an acetylene torch to cut through a piece of metal. Cotten Campbell finished in the top eight.

“The officials give the kidsapieceofmetalandtell them to go,” Moran Superintendent Dr. John Denson said. “As they progress, they went to different types of metal from a flat bar to angle iron to C-channel.”

This weekend, Moran will have eight students showing gilts and heifers. Next week, two heifers are entered at San Antonio with two lambs at San Angelo. Meat judging teams will compete at both shows next weekend.
