Memorial golf tourney almost full

The 15th annual John Rose and Jim Law Memorial Albany Kiwanis Charity Golf Tournament and Fajita Fiesta is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 14, at Albany Golf Course.
The event benefits the Albany K Charity Scholarship Fund.
Entry fee for the four-person scramble is $50 per player, which includes the Fajita Fiesta. Golfers may purchase up to four mulligans at $10 apiece.
Entry deadline is Friday, Oct. 7.
Kiwanian Zach Maberry said the field for the tournament is almost full.
“We have nine teams right now and we’re going to allow 12,” Maberry said. “We have three spots available as of Tuesday, Sept. 13.”
Maberry said sponsorships, ranging from $750 for Platinum to $175 for hole sponsors, are still available. Platinum and Gold sponsorships include entry for four golfers. Silver and Bronze sponsorships cover two player entries, and hole sponsors one.
“We’re asking for sponsorships to be submitted by Friday, Sept. 16 to give us time to get the advertising together,” Maberry said. “We will accept sponsors after that, but they may not get the advertising like everyone else.”
For those wishing to enjoy the fajita lunch without playing golf, cost is $15.
The event honors two longtime Kiwanians who were active in the community.
“I think John Rose was one of the founding members,” Kiwanian Steve Waller said. “He was one of those Mr. Golf guys at the golf club, hit two holes-in-one. When he passed away, it was originally the John Rose Memorial Tournament because of how much he meant to both the Kiwanis Club in Albany and the golf club.”
Waller said Law was involved in several local causes.
“Jim Law was one of those guys in the background who did everything he needed to do, whether it was Kiwanis or Fandangle.” Waller said. “He touched a lot of lives. He was a big part of Kiwanis, and when he passed away later on, we wanted to honor him, too.”
