Meeting set for new secondary students

New students at Albany High School and Albany Junior High School, including all incoming seventh graders, are urged to attend a special meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 14 starting at 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria/snack bar, which is located in the junior high building.

At least one parent is asked to accompany their student to the brief meeting, if at all possible.

The time slot follows the elementary’s “Meet the Teacher” sessions, which start at 5:00 p.m.

Those present at the brief orientation will learn about policy changes, as well as some of the procedures currently in effect at the secondary level.

AHS/AJHS principal Edward Morales will present information and answer questions.

“Most of this will probably be stuff they’ve all heard before, but I want them to know that it will be enforced,” said the principal, mentioning that there are a couple of new policies regarding vaping and obtaining VOE forms based on attendance.

Morales emphasized that at least one parent should try to make the orientation session.

“This is not just for incoming seventh graders; it’s for all students who will be new to the secondary campus,” he said.

Any unregistered high school or junior high students who are new to the Albany school district should contact the principal’s office prior to the Aug. 14 meeting, preferably sometime this week.

“If they haven’t registered yet, they’re already behind,” Morales said.
