A Shackelford County man was arrested just outside of Cisco after a high speed chase last Thursday, Aug. 5 and is currently being held in the Shackelford County Law Enforcement Center on a $500,000 bond.

Jerry Lee McGough, 50, of Moran was charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child, as well as with felony evading with a motor vehicle.

According to county sheriff Ed Miller, his office, along with the Texas Rangers had been investigating McGough for about a week, and a warrant was issued for his arrest on Wednesday, Aug. 4.

Because McGough was in a company pickup, the vehicle owners were apparently able to track it, and Stephens County law enforcement notified the local sheriff’s office of the pickup’s possible location in Moran on Thursday.

Deputy Quinton Lee was dispatched to Moran, found McGough and a passenger in the vehicle and “attempted to make contact” with the suspect, according to Miller.

McGough fled south on Highway 6 into Eastland County, with Lee in pursuit.

He was stopped just outside Cisco’s city limits by Cisco police officers, with Eastland County deputies and DPS troopers arriving on the scene.

McGough did not resist arrest at that point, Miller said, but a juvenile who was in the truck had a firearm.

According to the Cisco Police Department Facebook post, “the male juvenile in the vehicle was detained for resisting arrest after officers had to wrestle a handgun from him.”

The juvenile was taken into custody by Eastland County officials, while McGough was arraigned at the Eastland County Jail by Justice of the Peace Jon Glenn.

He was then taken to the Shackelford LEC on bonds set at $500,000. An additional bond of $10,000 was set for the evading charge.

Shackelford County constable Xavier Perez commended deputy Lee for his actions during the pursuit and arrest, stating that he had remained calm and maintained professionalism throughout the situation.
