Major rain hits area for first time since early July
Albany received much-needed rainfall overnight and early Saturday morning, March 7, with some areas reporting up to four inches of rain.
The steady rainfall brought relief to dry pastures and fields across the area after several months of limited precipitation. The system also brought noticeably cooler temperatures, a change from the warmer-than-usual conditions that had lingered through the end of winter.
While rainfall totals varied around the county, many gauges in the Albany area measured close to four inches during the overnight storm.
The rain helped break a dry stretch that followed the heavy July 4, 2025 storms, when more than five inches of rain fell in just a few hours and caused flash flooding in parts of town. Since that time, rainfall totals had been limited, with only two other days producing more than an inch of rain locally, one inch recorded on Aug. 21 and 1.07 inches on Oct. 25.
