Main Street construction tied to gas line project

Atmos Energy crews are currently at work along North Main Street as part of a system modernization project to improve the safety and reliability of Albany’s natural gas infrastructure.

“Atmos Energy is completing a system modernization project along N. Main Street in Albany to further increase the safety and reliability of its natural gas system,” said Shaun Martin, a representative with Atmos. “Customers and nearby residents may see our highly trained technicians and contractors replacing the natural gas mains and service lines that connect to the gas meter at their home or business. We are working closely with Albany city officials and the local fire department to minimize any disruption that may accompany these upgrades.”

The work has resulted in temporary lane closures on portions of Main Street, though no major traffic issues have been reported so far.

Martin confirmed that the project is expected to be complete by mid to late August and that it is a one-time upgrade with no additional phases planned at this time.
