Requests to receive a ballot by mail for the May 7 election must be received in the county clerk’s office by April 26.

Shackelford County residents have the opportunity to vote early in a statewide amendment election and the county-wide hospital district election, which are both on the same ballot, either by requesting a mail ballot or voting early in person.

Anyone planning to vote by mail must fill out the application form found on the county website at www.shackelfordcounty.org, or call the clerk’s office at 325-762-9415 to ask for an application to be sent through the mail.

All applications to vote by mail must be received in the clerk’s office by the April 26 deadline.

Likewise, completed mail ballots must be received back in the clerk’s office by election day, May 7.

“Anyone who has already filled out a request for an annual ballot will automatically be sent one,” county clerk Cheri Hawkins said. “A new application has to be sent to us each year; then that voter will automatically be sent a mail ballot for all elections held through our office for the entire calendar year.”

Requests for an annual mail ballot can be obtained through the clerk’s office.

The first day to vote early in person is Monday, April 25. Early voting will end on Tuesday, May 3.

All voting for the combined election will be held at the county courthouse.

In addition to the two proposed amendments to the state constitution, the Shackelford County Hospital District trustee election has been combined on the same ballot since both are county-wide.

Seven candidates have signed up for three at-large places on the board for a two-year term.

The list of candidates includes incumbent Myra Hise, along with Jason Price and Mary Beth Jones who are not currently serving on the board but have been in the past.

Newcomers who have signed up for the election include Kayla Herron, Rochelle Stewart, Kraymer Harbold, and Elizabeth Roysdon.

Voters should not contact the hospital district office to request a mail ballot for this election.

Hawkins said that voters in Voting Precinct 404, which in the Lueders area, will also be able to vote in a Lueders ISD trustee election. All other county voters will not see the Lueders election on their ballots.

There will also be county-wide runoff elections for the Democratic and Republican  Primary elections set for May 24. In person voting for that race will be held May 16-20.

“Hopefully, people will not mix up the two elections we have coming up in May,” Hawkins said. “The first on May 7 was called to vote on the two proposed constitutional amendments, with the hospital district combining its election with ours since they are both are county-wide votes.”

The election on May 24 is strictly to decide contested Primary Election races where one candidate did not have a simple majority.
