Shackelford County residents who want to request ballots by mail for the May 7 statewide amendment election and the county-wide hospital district election can now send in their applications.

The deadline for requests to be received in the clerk’s office is April 26. The application form to request a mail ballot can be found on the county website at www.shackelfordcounty.org.

Voters can also call the clerk’s office at 325-762-9415 in order to receive one through the mail.

The first day to vote early in person is Monday, April 25. Early voting will end on Tuesday, May 3.

All voting for the combined election will be held in the county courthouse.

In addition to the two proposed amendments to the state constitution, the Shackelford County Hospital District trustee election has been combined on the same ballot since both are county-wide.

Seven candidates have signed up for three at-large places on the board. The term office is two years.

The list of candidates includes incumbent Myra Hise, along with Jason Price and Mary Beth Jones who are not currently serving on the board but have in the past.

Newcomers who have signed up for the election include Kayla Herron, Rochelle Stewart, Kraymer Harbold, and Elizabeth Roysdon.

Elections for board members or trustees for the other five entities in the county have or will be cancelling their elections due to drawing no contested races.

Voters should not contact the hospital district office to request a mail ballot for this election.

Having the both elections at the same polling place and on the same county-wide ballot will allow the two entities to split the cost of the election, according to county/district clerk Cheri Hawkins.
