Albany High School baseball parents will host a school approved ‘Long Ball’ fundraiser on Monday, June 29 at 6:00 p.m. at the high school baseball field.

Local baseball mom Tara Chapman said the players started getting pledges last week and will take them until the fundraiser.

“The pledges can be per foot the ball is hit or a flat donation,” Chapman said. “Each player will get five pitches in a row to see how far they can hit the ball.”

Chapman added that a $7 hamburger meal deal will be cooked and served at the fundraiser to raise money.

“Baseball requires so much money and with no concession stand during the regular season, we are counting on this event to bring in money for the upcoming year, and have some fun while doing it, Chapman said. “Baseball is one of the more expensive sports played at Albany.”

During the fundraiser, seniors from the 2019-2020 season can participate and be recognized.

“We want to do something to recognize these players and the season since they were only able to play a few games,” Chapman said. “Not every senior will be able to be there. A few are already playing college baseball, but this gives the seniors who are participating  one last opportunity on the field for the 2020 season.”

Jacob Cleveland will announce the event, and after the competition parents will get a chance to get in on the action.

“Players will pitch to parents to see whose mom or dad can hit the furthest,” Chapman said.

Chapman said that anyone wanting to donate or pledge who isn’t contacted can call her at 325-513-9082 or Misti Webb at 325-201-1739.

The fundraiser is not an official school event because of restrictions in place by UIL, and local high school coaches are not allowed to participate.
