Local youth place in major shows

Shackelford County FFA and 4-H members continued their participation in the San Antonio and San Angelo livestock shows over the past week.

Six of 10 Albany FFA members showing barrows at San Antonio placed in their classes. Chelsy Parsons had the top finish with a second-place showing and reserve champion with her Duroc.

Tye Edgar finished third with his Spot. Crew Spencer had the seventh-place Duroc.

Callan Edgar (Hampshire) and Leddie Leech (Duroc) placed ninth in their respective classes. Leech’s barrow was shown by Slayton Parsons. Creed Spencer placed 10th with his Duroc.

Other Albany FFA members exhibiting barrows were Emily Schedule, Slayton Parsons, Cash Edgar, and Ryan Turner.

Also exhibiting barrows at San Antonio were Shackelford County 4-H members Connor and Luke Smith. Connor Smith placed sixth with his medium-weight Hampshire.

Meanwhile, 4-Hers Gage and Truitt Burton were entered in the commercial steer contest at San Antonio. That event concluded Tuesday, Feb. 21. Results will be reported next week.

In the San Antonio heifer show, Albany FFA’s Gracie Price placed third with her Maine Anjou heifer over the weekend.

Albany Jr. FFA member Harper Hargett exhibited her goat at the San Antonio Stock Show.

Eight Albany FFA and three Moran FFA students showed hogs at San Angelo last week.

In the barrow show, Creed Spencer had the third-place lightweight Cross, Crew Spencer was seventh with a lightweight Berkshire and Slayton Parsons placed 10th with a heavyweight Cross.

Other Albany FFA exhibitors were Tye Edgar, Chelsy Parsons, Schedule, Tatum Grady, and Paige Price.

Representing Moran FFA were Cotten Campbell in the gilt show, and Ellis Hise and Allen Hebel in the barrow show.

Albany FFA members had three cattle entries and four swine entries being exhibited this week.
