Local students headed to state competitions

TwogroupsofgroupsAlbany students are headed to state contests this week.

A total of 17 Albany FCCLAmembers will compete in the FCCLA State ConferenceinDallas,while four Nancy Smith Elementary students are competing at the state contest sponsored by the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association (TMSCA).

Both FCCLA Parliamentary Procedure teams plus two other individual contests qualified for state after placing in the top three of the regional conference.

TheLevel1(juniorhigh) parliamentary team took first in their division at regionals. The group consists of Tara Cauble, Kamryn Graham, Carsyn Clegg, Aiden Vickers, Jakobi Roberson, Charlee Patterson and Finlee Brown.

The Level 2 parliamentary team, which can include freshmen and sophomores, placed second to advance as well. The group includes Hattie Jo Braly,TatumGrady,Zayne Lefevre, Wesley Gleitz, Connor Smith, Jack Nail and Braeten Street – all freshmen.

Also, another pair and one individual are also advancing to state. The Chapter Review Portfolio, presented by senior Cambree Clegg and junior Myleigh Leveridge, won first place at regional, and senior Sidney Russell took thirdtoadvanceinaLevel3 contest on sports nutrition.

The contestants will now compete to be among the top two places in the state which qualify for the national conference in Seattle in June.

Elementary Qualifiers Thefourlocalsixthgraders are traveling to SanAntonio Friday for their state competition on Saturday.

Artie Bell and Kimberly Howe qualified in science, while Carly Kreitler and Mason Cradduck qualified inbothscienceandnumber sense. Along with several other NSES students, they participated in qualifying events earlier in the year.

This is the first year Albany has competed in the TMSCA contests.
