Local students headed to rodeo finals

Two Albany High students are headed to the Texas High School Rodeo Association finals in Abilene on June 9-15 after earning their spots at the state show by placing in the top 10 in their events over the combined course of the season and the regional finals held in Graham on April 5-7.

Mady Connally took fourth overall in Region 3 in pole bending to advance to Abilene.

Addie Beth Denton qualified for state by ending the season average in seventh place in goat tying.

Two local junior high students will be competing in the Texas Junior High School Rodeo Association finals in Gonzales on May 26 through June 1, one of them in multiple events.

The young men competed in multiple rodeos throughout the season, earned a place in the Region 3 finals in Graham earlier this month, and ending the regional competition in the top 10 in year end standings.

Cort Peterson qualified for the state junior high finals in junior boys goat tying, junior boys breakaway, and in chute dogging.

Will LeMay finished third in junior boys breakaway and will compete at the finals in Gonzales.

Denton is making a return trip to the THSRA finals, and she also competed at the TJHSRA her eighth grade year, where she placed 17th out of the 100 contestants in goat tying.

The other three will be making their first run at the state level rodeo.

Winners at the Texas state finals rodeos qualify for national competition.

This year the National Junior High School Finals Rodeo will be on June 23-29 in Huron, South Dakota.

The National High School Finals Rodeo will be in Rock Springs, Wyom-ing on July 14-20.
