Local students to have Friday holiday

Albany ISD will release at 3:00 p.m. today, May 9, and students have a holiday tomorrow, May 10.

Friday, May 10 is designated as a staff comp day, and it is the last student holiday before the school year ends on May 22.

Teachers will still report for work days on May 23 and 24.

High school commencement will close out the school year and takes place at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 24.

Special events scheduled to take place before the year ends include the sixth and seventh grade band trip to Six Flags on Thursday, May 16, the elementary Field Day on Monday, May 20, athletic physicals on Wednesday, May 22, and the NSES talent show on Wednesday, May 22.

End-of-course exams are taking place at the secondary campus this week, with the last STAAR tests for both elementary and junior high students scheduled May 13-15.

Also coming on the calendar is a special retirement reception for four Albany faculty members – Danita Johnston, Karen Martin, John Stockdale, and Lavelle Vinson.

The come-and-go event on Thursday, May 23 will start at 2:00 p.m. in the foyer of Nancy Smith Elementary School. More details will be published next week.
