Albany High School senior Madison Wilkins and Moran High School senior Khloe New were named Lions Club co-sweethearts for 2018-19.

“We were looking for young ladies that showed a lot of willingness to work in the community, were good moral citizens, and did well in their class,” said Lions Club president Robert Skelton. “We had several good candidates to choose from.”

Madison Wilkins

Madison Wilkins has attended Albany schools her entire academic career.

She served as her class president for her sophomore, junior, and senior years, and is currently the FFA president, co-president of the FCCLA, and vice president for both the National Honor Society and the Student Council.

Wilkins is active in several community activities including acting in the Fandangle, volunteering at the Aztec, interning at the Old Jail Art Center, serving as a junior deacon at First Christian Church, and performing in the annual Albany Dance Theater production.

Extracurricular school activities in which she has participated include FFA livestock shows and CDE contests, yearbook staff editor, JV volleyball and tennis, and UIL.

The senior was presented with the Top Hand Award from the Shackelford County Youth and Livestock Association this past spring.

Wilkins is the daughter of Tisha Wilkins and Shannon and Leslie Wilkins.

Khloe New

Khloe New attended Albany and Bangs schools before transferring to MHS her sophomore year.

The senior is active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and attends Friendship Baptist Church in Albany.

She was the Bulldog mascot last year, and has played softball and tennis in high school. New has competed in UIL events, FFA CDEs, and in the Spanish Olympics at ACU.

While in high school, New, who works at Lively Dog House, has taken dual credit classes at Cisco College, and has also taken certified nursing assistant classes in Abilene over the summer. She takes her state boards for her CNA license this week.

After high school graduation, New plans to attend either Angelo State or Tarleton State University and obtain a Bachelor of Science in nursing.

New is the daughter of Robert and Vanessa Moon of Albany.

The two sweethearts will represent the organization throughout the year at events where the club has a presence, including the Lions Club Benefit Bowl, the AHS homecoming parade, and Trunk or Treat.

Upon graduating, each of the sweethearts will be given a Lions Club scholarship to be used at the college of her choice.
