Five youth and four adults from Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church have spent this week in Belize as part of a mission team.

Local teens Cambree Clegg, Melanie Figueroa, Maci Hatchett, Gatlin Wills, and Porter Wills were joined by MMPC youth minister Becky Wills, and other sponsors Sandy Ingalls and Paul and Debbie Hamilton for the weeklong trip to the Central American nation.

A total of 16 people made up the mission team, according to Courtney Clegg, mother of Cambree. The group departed Friday, July 7.

“It was primarily a Vacation Bible School and evangelism trip,” MMPC pastor Anthony Ceder said.

Courtney Clegg said the group presented a puppet show as part of the VBS program for children in the rural villages of Bermudian Landing. Other activities during the week included leading a youth rally, making home visits delivering food and necessities to widows and the needy, and taking a tubing expedition in coastal caves.

The mission team was to depart Belize, located on the Caribbean coast south of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, on Friday, July 14.
