Local fugitive sighted here over weekend

After an Albany fugitive was spotted in the community several times over the weekend, Shackelford County law enforcement put a notice on social media Monday to try and apprehend him.

Andrew (Andy) Haw-kins has been “on the run” since a warrant was issued for his arrest in July 2018, according to Shackelford County sheriff Ed Miller.

Charges were reportedly filed on Hawkins in May 2018 in an Albany Police Department case, and he was formally indicted by a grand jury in August, said Miller.

“We have been looking for him since the warrant was issued, but he fled,” said Miller. “He was seen by the Ranger police department in Ranger and Eastland about three weeks ago, and then we had information that he was in the San Antonio area.”

The sheriff said that sources told his department a few days ago that Hawkins would be coming back to Albany, and the department made the decision to alert the public on their Facebook page, Shackelford SO.

“He was seen here several times over the weekend and deputies actually got a quick glimpse of him, but he ran and we weren’t able to catch him,” said Miller.

In addition to the charges against Hawkins, the social media post warns residents that “persons found to be harboring or helping to hinder apprehension of this fugitive may also face prosecution.”

Miller said that those who might see Hawkins or know of his whereabouts should call the Shackelford County sheriff’s office at 325-762-2000 or their local law enforcement.
