Albany FFA was recognized with the Golden Horizon and National Chapter awards on Wednesday, April 13, at the Big Country District and Area 4 FFA contests at Tarleton State University in Stephenville.

The Golden Horizon Chapter Award recognizes a well-rounded local FFA chapter with an inclusive, progressive, aggressive program of activities that promotes maximum participation in order to deliver the leadership component of agricultural education, according to the Texas FFA website. The National Chapter Award recognizes chapters that actively implement the FFA mission and strategies.

Albany students competed in four contests  at the event, which had 21 schools from six counties for the district contests and 99 schools from 26 counties for area.

In farm business management, the team of Robyn Trail, Avery Kleiner, Leddie Leech, and Presley Green placed third in district and ninth in area.

The range judging team of Koy Cauble, Lute Wheeler, and Laithe Leech placed first in district and ninth in area.

The horse judging team of Will LeMay, Susie Cormack, Madailein Beard, and Cort Peterson placed sixth in district and 20th in area.

The livestock judging team of Gracie Price, Callan Edgar and Kenzie Neve placed 12th in district and 47th in area.

Leddie Leech finished in the top four of the Big Country officer elections.

“Leddie did a great job with her officer test and speech,” Beard said. “She needed to be in the top two to be elected. The Big Country voting delegates voted on the officer selection.”

Albany’s voting delegates were Kleiner and Trail.

On Saturday, April 23 the state cotton team of Leddie Leech, Trail, Kleiner, and Green and the plant ID team of Cauble, LeMay, Laithe Leech, and Wheeler will compete at the state contest in Lubbock.

On Thursday, April 28 Wheeler, Cauble, Laithe Leech, and LeMay will attend the environmental natural resources contest at Stephenville.

The final event on the Albany FFA calendar is the Area 4 convention on May 16 at Wichita Falls. Voting delegates will be Kleiner, Trail, and Leddie Leech.
