Albany’s Gracie Price placed first in her class with her Maine-Anjou heifer at the San Angelo stock show and won senior cattle showmanship exhibiting the same animal.
Price also entered a steer in the show as more than 30 Shackelford County FFA and 4-H members began exhibiting animals at shows in San Angelo and San Antonio.
“The kids did a great job,” Albany FFA advisor Chris Beard said. “This was a busy week. We had folks going back and forth from one show to the other.”
In other cattle classes at San Angelo, Myleigh Leveridge was fourth in Other Registered Breeds with a heifer, while Madailein Beard was seventh in the same class.
Hattie Braly placed fifth in her class with a medium weight steer.
Most of the San Angelo entries exhibited gilts, which could be entered in the Stars Purebred or Stars Crossbred competition. Gilts were also eligible for the regular Purebred show.
Madeline Stapp placed in both events with the same gilt, taking sixth in the regular Purebred competition and eighth in the Stars ring with a Yorkshire.
Carter Carrion had the top-placing gilt among local entries, finishing second in the Stars Crossbred competition.
Four other local entries won ribbons with gilts. Luke Smith placed fourth in the Stars Crossbred show and also exhibited a purebred Poland. McCamey Vaughn was sixth in the Purebred Spots. Jayden Kelly was ninth amongthe Stars Yorkshire. Allison Lemond was 10th in the Stars Spots.
Other gilt exhibitors were Avery Burns, Cooper Carrion, Slayten Kelly, Breanna Overton, Christopher Overton, Paige Price, Judson Rogers, Keely Rogers, Emily Schedule, Connor Smith, Hadley Stapp, and McCoy Vaughn. Willa Early exhibited a goat.
The barrow show extended through Thursday, Feb. 17 (today), though some local entries had already placed. Full results will be reported next week.
At San Antonio, Tatum Grady was third with her Duroc gilt.
Albany FFA alumni Hannah Snyder had four animals entered in the open show with three placing. She was fifth and sixth with Yorkshires and ninth with a Berkshire. She also showed a Chester.
McCamey Vaughn and McCoy Vaughn also showed gilts in San Antonio.
Gilts were the only results available from San Antonio, where judging for goats, lambs, and heifers began Monday, Feb. 14. Barrow judging begins Friday, Feb. 18, with steers starting Sunday, Feb. 20.
