Several Shackelford County residents placed in events last month at the Western Heritage Classic in Abilene. The festival, which featured the celebration of western life, was held May 9-13.

In the ranch rodeo, Green Land & Cattle finished fourth in the team standings with 66.5 points, placing for the third consecutive year.

The ranch rodeo pits teams of working cowboys in events such as team branding, team doctoring, team penning, wild cow milking, and bronc riding.

The Matthews/Nail Ranch team won the team penning event. In bronc riding, Matthews/Nail’s Colton Mayo and Green Land & Cattle’s Kolton Burnett tied for first in the Saturday competition.

In the parade, held May 11, Albany’s Cliff Teinert drove the winning entry in the “All Other Wagons” class. Also, longtime Fandangle participant David Beard placed first in the “Rubber Tire (Vehicle-Type Tire)” class.

Three county youth participated in the Old Time Fiddlers Contest, held May 13. Olena Hinshaw of Moran placed sixth in the Junior Division (12 and under) with Albany’s Gage Burton finishing seventh, and Moran’s Romie Hinshaw eighth.
