Filing has now opened to any local residents who want to run for the various city council, hospital district, or school board positions in the Saturday, May 1 election.

Filing is underway as of Wednesday and will close in one month on Friday, Feb. 12 at 5:00 p.m. There is no filing fee.

Albany City Council

Four city council positions expire this cycle, but only because there have been two members appointed in the last year, who both must file for election if they wish to continue to serve.

The seats currently filled by council members Don Taggart, Austin Sherwood, and Lynsi Musselman will all be on the ballot, along with the mayoral post.

Susan Montgomery ran for an unexpired one-year term last year after sitting mayor Rodney Alexander passed away in January 2020. She must run again in 2021 for a full two-year term.

Lynsi Musselman, who was appointed to Carolyn Waller’s seat in December, attended her first meeting as a council member Monday night. Waller’s term expires in May, so that position is for two years.

Austin Sherwood was appointed several months ago after James Waters resigned. That position is for a one-year unexpired term.

Applications are available at City Hall.

The positions are elected at large, and the two-year terms and one-year unexpired term will be listed separately on the ballot. Candidates must specify if they want to file for a one-year or two-year term.

Those with questions should call the city secretary’s office at 325-762-3133.

Albany ISD

Board of Trustees

Albany ISD has two trustee spots that are up for election in 2021. The places are for full three-year terms.

Candidates in the Albany school election must file for a specific seat on the board and must live within the boundaries of the school district.

Applications will be available at the superintendent’s office.

Up for election this May are the trustee positions held by Dr. Cory Brown for Place 3 and Kalico Leech  for Place 4.

Shackelford County

Hospital Board

The Shackelford County Hospital Board will have three of seven seats on the May ballot.

The three full-term, two-year seats currently held by Mike Folsom, Jo Ann Estridge, and Leslie Belcher will expire.

Election information and applications will be available from Regina Whitt at the hospital district office at 840 Gregg Street.

Hospital candidates must have their applications signed by 10 registered Shackelford County voters.

“We strongly recommend that applicants obtain at least 12 signatures, just in case someone that signs is not a current registered voter,” said Whitt.

Moran City Council

The Moran city council will fill two at-large two-year city council terms this spring. The council seats are currently occupied by Mayor Steven Taggart and council member Christal Herrell.

Those with questions can call city secretary Teresa King at Moran City Hall at 325-945-3441.

Moran ISD

Board of Trustees

Three at-large positions on the Moran ISD school board are up for election. Applicants must live in the school district to serve.

Seats up for election are currently filled by Sug Roller, Russell Holland, and Lynda Stockton.

Board members serve three-year terms.

Packets for Moran ISD school board positions will be available in the superintendent’s office during school hours.

Fort Griffin SUD

Board of Trustees

Two of the three-year terms on the local special utilities district board will expire this year.

The positions currently held by Sam Snyder, Place 6 and Burrell McKelvain, Place 7 are up for election.

For more information on filing for one of these seats, contact Betty Shelton at 325-762-2575.
