Seats on three local boards will be determined by voters on Election Day, those who cast early ballots, and those who return mail in  ballots for the May 2 races, including one with a list of candidates which was revised again this week.

Incumbent Cindy Huskey will be on the ballot for Moran city council after all, said Moran city secretary Teresa King.

“Huskey had intended to drop out,” said King. “But she did not get the proper forms turned in before the deadline; so her name will be on the ballot along with the other candidates’ after all.”

Voting Opportunities

Shackelford County voters who wish to vote by mail for local board members can submit applications from now until the close of business on Monday, April 20.

Albany school district applications can be requested from Morgan Whitley at the AISD superintendent’s office at PO Box 2050, Albany TX 76430.

Shackelford County hospital board applications can be requested from Regina Whitt at the EMS station PO Box 3010, Albany TX 76430.

Moran city council mail-in ballots can be obtained from Teresa King at Moran city hall, 340 Fisher Street, Moran TX 76464 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Vote by mail applications can also be downloaded online at the Texas Secretary of State’s website, filled out, and returned to the proper early voting clerk – Whitt for the hospital board election, Whitley for the Albany school board, and King for the Moran city council.

“When they contact us to request a ballot by mail, we will check with the voter registration office to verify eligibility,” said Whitley.

Shackelford County clerk Cheri Hawkins said that she will provide local election officials with a list of the registered voters who requested ballots by mail for all county elections during 2020.

“The various election officials will need to check the list and determine who resides within their voting districts,” said Hawkins.

Voters are eligible to cast their ballot by mail if they will be away from the county on Election Day and during the hours that early voting is conducted, are sick or disabled, are 65 years of age or older on Election Day, or are confined in jail.

The last day to apply for a ballot by mail is Monday, April 20.

The last day to register to vote in the May election is Thursday, April 2.

The election itself is Saturday, May 2. Early voting will take place April 20-28.

Early voting by personal appearance for both the hospital district and the school district elections will take place at the hospital district office at 840 Gregg Street, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, and from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. each weekday from Monday, April 20 through Tuesday, April 28.

The same location will be used to vote on election day, May 2, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Moran City Hall will be the location for the Moran city council election.
