Local churches plan holiday events

The Christmas season is underway, and local churches are making adjustments to their traditional Christmas activities typically spread throughout the community. 

Some pastors and congregations have not yet decided on whether or not to hold all of their traditional Christmas events, Any changes or additions will be publicized in a later issue, if requested.

First Christian 

First Christian Church will hold its traditional Christmas Eve candlelight communion service at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 24.

First Methodist

First United Methodist Church has put most Christmas activities on hold, according to pastor Tim Trimble. 

“We will continue to hold our weekly worship service, Monday Celebrate Recovery Group, and Wednesday Kids and Adult Bible studies,” said Trimble. 

Friendship Baptist

Friendship Baptist Church will hold their children’s Christmas program on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 11:00 a.m.

The church will hold its Christmas candlelight service on Sunday, Dec. 20 at 10:30 a.m. with no Sunday School that day. 

MMPC

Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church members will host La Posada this year for the first time, with details in a separate article.

MMPC is  also planning a 6:00 p.m. Christmas Eve service on Thursday, Dec. 24.

The service will be held outside unless the weather is bad, in which case the service will be moved inside the church. 

The annual Christmas Day Feast is set for Friday, Dec. 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

No dine-in meals will be available this year due to COVID concerns, but meals are available to-go or by delivery.

Ministerial Alliance 

The Ministerial Alliance sponsored Believe Tree for Teens with present pickup on the afternoons of Tuesday, Dec. 15 and Thursday, Dec. 17 at the Feed Store, with times to be announced. 

Members of the Alliance will deliver Christmas Baskets in Albany between the hours of 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13.
