Preregistration for Albany Community Vacation Bible School is underway.

The event, sponsored by the Albany Ministerial Alliance, is for children age 4 through those who have completed sixth grade and is scheduled for Sunday-Wednesday, July 30-Aug.. 2. Preschoolers must be 4 years old by Aug. 1.

Preregistration may be done by scanning a QR code included on promotional posters or the ad in this week’s Albany News. Organizer Betsy Spraberry said there has been a handful of children preregister already.

“I think in the next few weeks we will see a lot more preregistered,” Spraberry said. “Knowing some numbers will help us tremendously in the planning process.”

The theme of this year’s Community VBS is “Twists and Turns,” with children learning about the life of Peter and how he followed Jesus despite the twists and turns of life. The theme verse and prayer is Psalm 25:4 – “Make your ways known to me, teach me your paths.”

Community VBS will be split into three age groups, each of which will follow a separate “track.”

Ages 4 and 5 will meet 5:45-7:30 p.m. at The Feed Store.

“We are so excited about this change for our littles,” Spraberry said. “They will also have a slightly later start and earlier pickup.  This will allow plenty of time for parents who may have kids at both locations.”

Children who have completed kindergarten through fifth grade will meet 5:30-8:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Parents are asked to drop children off in back.

Children who have completed sixth grade will meet at 5:00 p.m. at First Baptist’s Fellowship Hall and assist with the younger groups.

“The sixth grade will help lead in the dining room and with rec games as the kinder through fifth graders carry on with normal VBS rotations,” Spraberry said. “Sixth graders will eat and head down to the youth room with Eduardo San Lucas and team to have their own age specific Bible study.”

Wednesday, Aug. 2 will be Family Night. Following a closing program at the First Baptist sanctuary, attendees are invited to Webb Park for a concert, scavenger hunt, cake, and hot dogs. Spraberry advises bringing lawn chairs.
