Local church joins Global Methodist

The congregation of Albany Methodist Church has voted to pursue affiliation with the Global Methodist Church.

Lance Thomas, president of Albany Methodist’s board of trustees, said the motion passed unanimously in a vote taken following services Sunday, Oct. 9.

In July, the congregation voted to leave the United Methodist Church. The next step in the process, Thomas said, is to have the move approved by the Northwest Texas Conference.

“We expect three-quarters of the churches in the Northwest Texas Conference will eventually join the Global Methodist Church,” Thomas said. “We had until December of next year to make it official, but we were ready.”

Thomas said Albany Methodist had the choice of joining Global Methodist or becoming an independent church.
