Two prospective county candidates had already picked up applications before press time this week and were expected to file by petition.

Incumbent Precinct 3 commissioner Lanham Martin of Moran is working to obtain the needed signatures to file for office.

Announcing his intention to file for the office of county attorney is Albany attorney Rollin Rauschl.

The incumbent, Colton Johnson, is not planning to run for reelection.

The filing period for the upcoming Republican and Democratic primaries officially began on Nov. 9, but Tuesday was the first business day, and county chair Lynne Teinert was at the Shackelford County Courthouse Wednesday to sign up Republican candidates.

According to County and District Clerk Cheri Hawkins, there is no local Democratic chair, but she can help prospective Democratic candidates contact the Austin office for information.

Hawkins also has copies of the petitions that can be filed in lieu of the filing fee for all local elections.

Monday, Dec. 9 is the deadline to file for a county or state office.
