The 4-H Friendsgiving potluck dinner is set for12:30 p.m. this Sunday, Nov. 14 at The Feed Store.

“We’ll plan to work on several community service projects during the afternoon,” Bell said. “First we’ll have lunch and a quick meeting.”

Scheduled activities include cooking casseroles to donate to Friendship Baptist Church’s Harvest Acres event.

“The sewing group is making things to donate to that as well,” Bell said.

Members will also write letters as part of a letters to seniors project.

“The letters will go out on the Vittles by Vehicles route,” Bell said. “There are 40-45 recipients, and I’ve got about 20 letters so far, so we’re going to work to fill that list. Hopefully, we’ll create correspondence between the kids and local senior citizens.”

Bell said members are asked to bring a blanket to donate to a local blanket drive for seniors.

District Food Show

Eight Shackelford County 4-H members will participate in the District 7 Food Show beginning at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17 at Big Country Hall at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene.

Kimberly Howe, Gage Burton, Carly Kreitler, and Truitt Burton qualified in the Junior Division. Charli Trail, Brook Green, and Cayla Green are entered in Intermediate and Johnnie Hise in Senior.

The 4-Hers qualified for the district level at last month’s county food show.

Bell said the event is seeking volunteers to act as judges.

“I’m going to serve as a judge, and we would like to  bring one other judge from Shackelford County if anyone is interested in serving that way,” she said.

Dog Care

Fifteen Shackelford County 4-Hers attended a dog care and training session on Monday at Salt Creek Veterinary Hospital.

“We had several kids express an interest, so we’re planning a few introductory clinics,” Bell said. “This was basic medical and health care for a dog.”
