Nearly 70 players have registered to participate in Albany Little Dribblers, showing significant growth in the girls division.

League organizer Joe Tidwell said 42 girls and 24 boys are registered for the program, which is open to boys and girls age eight through fourth grade.

The number of girls signed up led to the formation of six teams, leaving Tidwell to figure out a workable schedule.

“I’m not sure we’ve ever had six teams before,” he said. “Usually, a team will play everybody else twice over the season. Each of these six groups will play everybody else once and some teams twice.”

Tidwell said the girls teams have been drafted, while the boys draft is expected to be held Friday, Jan. 28.

Games will start Saturday, Feb. 5, and continue each Saturday through the end of February.

Games will be played at Albany High School’s auxiliary gym. The program uses nine-foot goals.
