Lions Club sponsors vision screening

Just under 70 adults and children were screened at last Saturday’s free vision clinic sponsored by the Albany Lions Club at the Friendship Baptist Church activity center.

“We saw 69 people during the four hours the event was open,” said club secretary Bob Skelton. “Every person having problems with their vision and not having the monetary ability to follow up on the problem, left the Sight For All event with a written plan in hand to work toward correcting their vision.”

According to Skelton, 45 of those seen required no vision correction or their current prescriptions were effective.

Of the 24 who needed corrective action, only 11 had vision insurance or some way of paying for a professional examination.

“Over half of the 24 needed an exam and most likely corrective lenses but did not have the financial ability to obtain the exam and corrective lenses,” Skelton said. “The Albany Lions Club welcomed the opportunity to monetarily assist those 13 people in the process to correct their vision.”

Most of the local Lions Club members, including new president John Tate, helped with the event.
