Lion fans plan Friday send-off

Thursday playoff games mean the Albany Athletic Booster Club has to move up the schedule of events, and they could be happily forced to move them up even earlier if the Albany Lions extend their season another week.

The community pep rally for Albany’s Class 2A Division II state semifinal against New Home was held Wednesday, Dec. 7.

The send-off at the Bank Park is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8 (today), as the Lions travel to Sweetwater for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff at the Mustang Bowl.

The winner of tonight’s game will face the winner of the Mart-Burton semifinal at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington for the state championship.

Ticket Info

Tickets for tonight’s game are available only at the gate.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students.

Coaches, district, and senior citizens passes will be honored.

Possible Plans

If Albany advances, next week’s pep rally would be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13. Conflicting with that is the Lady Lions’ District 10-2A basketball opener at Cisco. Four Albany players are also cheerleaders. Albany athletic director Ryder Peacock said he will look into playing the basketball game early should Albany reach the football state final.

A decision on whether First National Bank will sponsor a community bus to Arlington will be made if Albany wins tonight, according to bank officials.

If a bus is secured, community members can call 325-762-2221 for more information and seat prices, with the bus filled on a first come, first served basis.

State Finals Tickets

All tickets for the state championship games must be purchased online. For information, see a separate article in this edition or visit www.uiltexas.org/football/state/football-state-championships-spectator-information.
