Lenten fish fry set Friday
By Sam Waller
Several local churches are planning special events in the weeks leading up to Easter Sunday, starting with Ash Wednesday services on March 2 of this week, as well as the Jesus of Nazareth Catholic Church’s annual fish fry this Friday evening.
Catholic Church
The local Catholic congregation will hold its annual Fry-Day Night Lenten Fish Fry on Friday, March 4.
This year, the event will be held at the Resource Care Youth Center at 84 N. Ave. B.
Food will be served from 5:00 p.m. until sold out. Plates will include fried fish, tater tots, hush puppies, cole slaw, beans and a dessert. Suggested donation is $10 per plate.
The fish fry is just one of several Lenten activities on the church’s schedule. Stations of the cross will be held on some Fridays during Lent with a final schedule to be determined. A Good Friday evening service is planed with start time to be announced, and regular Easter Sunday services are planned.
Several other local churches are also holding Lenten events.
First Christian
First Christian Church will hold Soup and Sustenance at 6:00 p.m. each Wednesday through April 6. A meal of soup, sandwiches, and dessert will be followed by study. This year’s study is titled “The Case for Heaven and Hell” and is based on the book by Lee Strobel.
The public is invited to attend the program.
Trinity Lutheran
Trinity Lutheran Church will have a light meal and Lenten services each Wednesday through April 6. Meals will start at 5:30 p.m. followed by services at 6:30 p.m.

Methodist Church
Albany United Methodist Church will begin its Lenten Study, a 40-day devotional for Lent, on Sunday, March 7.
