Local cowboy Will LeMay finished his eighth grade year by winning big at the Texas Junior High Rodeo Association Region 3 competition and earning a trip to the state finals.

LeMay finished the regional contest as the breakaway roping champion, winning second place in goat tying and fifth in team roping, as well as coming out as the Region 3 finals team roping champion.

He went on to complete in those same events at the TJHRA state finals last week in Gonzales.

LeMay won fourth place in the first round of breakaway roping against 92 of the top junior high ropers in Texas and earned a top six belt buckle as well as a cash prize.

The Albany cowboy missed in the second round and didn’t go on to compete in the short go, but still finished in ninth place in the point standings in junior high breakaway roping.

LeMay rode his horse Little Man in the breakaway event and his horse XL in team roping and goat tying.

This is LeMay’s second year to compete in the state finals but the first year to earn a top six buckle and a check.
