Albany High School seniors Koy Cauble and Leddie Leech were crowned 2022 Homecoming King and Queen in front of a homecoming crowd Friday night at the halftime of the Albany vs. Cross Plains game.

The Coming Home King and Queen representing the Class of 1972 – David Priest and Donna Freudiger Parker – were also presented at midfield during the ceremony at the half.

The nominees for Homecoming King and Queen, all seniors, were escorted by parents or family members, while the prince and princess from the other three high school classes were part of the festivities as well.

The sweethearts and beaus of several student organizations were also part of the royalty on the field.

Cauble and Leech were both nominated by the sophomore class.

The student body voted on the eight nominees to determine the winners.

Homecoming Queen

Leddie Leech

Leech, 17, is the daughter of Kalico and Cody Leech of Albany.

She has received numerous awards and honors in high school, including the FFA Star Chapter Award her junior year, goat showmanship during her sophomore year, and has served as the president of the FFA the last two years. She has also served as both presient and vice president of the Shackelford County 4-H.

Leech is currently the president of the student council and vice president of her class.

She also has participated in the Lions Roar newspaper, which won both Silver and Bronze Star Awards. She won several state individual achievement awards for newspaper as well.

Her sophomore year, she and her partner advanced to the state level Cross X Debate.

She has competed in tennis on the girls varsity girls doubles team, and is active in One Act Play, the Fort Griffin Fandangle and Albany dance Theatre.

She plans to attend Texas Tech University next fall as a Agribusiness major.

Homecoming King

Koy Cauble

Cauble has participated in football and golf during high school, advancing into the post-season in both.

He is active in FFA competitions including the state Plant ID team and range and pasture team, along with livestock and wildlife judging.

Cauble competed in the Adademic Challenge team last year as a junior, advancing to the state meet.

He has not yet determined what path he will take after high school.

Float Winners

The four high school classes entered floats in the homecoming parade, competing against each other for honors.

The theme of the parade this year was Musicals.

The winners were the senior class with “Grease;” while the juniors were second with “Greatest Showman.” The freshmen finished in third with “High School Musical,” and the sophomore class was fourth with “Teen Beach Movie.”

Food Drive Results

Albany schools competed against Cross Plains students in a canned food drive benefiting the ResourceCare food pantries in both communities.

Cross Plains won the overall competition with 3,008 cans collected, while Albany collected 1,437.

Albany’s first grade won the local class competition and will receive a pizza party. At the high school, Jennifer Marshall’s fifth period FCCLA class won the contest and will receive Chick-fil-A.

“Albany collected much more this year,” said organizer Ragan Riley with ResourceCare. “Our contributions were up considerably over last year.”
