Kiwanians present check to BRBR

On Wednesday, July 18, at their weekly noon meeting at Fort Griffin General Merchandise and Company, members of the Albany Kiwanis Club presented a donation of $1,150 to representatives from the Ben Richey Boys Ranch (BRBR).

The funds are designated for a specific project and the money will be used to buy materials needed to make kitchen cabinets for 10 of the new houses under construction at the BRBR facility in Abilene.

“Jim and Saundra Nobles will build the kitchen cabinets for all 10 houses and they are not charging anything for their labor!” Kiwanis president Ramby Anderson said. “Jim expects to produce one set of cabinets about every two weeks.”

The houses are part of the BRBR’s new Family Program, which is designed to help struggling single mothers with children get back on their feet.

Single mothers accepted into the program are required to work towards developing money management skills, parenting skills, and job skills, with a stated goal of the mother becoming able to support herself and her family.

“I grew up in Abilene, so I’ve had the opportunity to meet staff and graduates from each campus,” said Anderson. “I believe the boys ranch can make an even bigger impact with the Family Program additional housing.”

The BRBR has a campus for boys in Albany.
